A project to complete plumbing and drainage upgrade for a high-end residential villa renovation.

Project Overview

Extreme Plumbing & Gas was engaged by Curated Construction to complete the plumbing and drainage works for a high-end villa renovation in Auckland.

The project involved a complete overhaul of the property’s existing plumbing infrastructure, replacing outdated water supply and waste pipework with modern, reliable systems designed to deliver improved performance and long-term durability.

Working alongside Curated Construction, our team ensured all plumbing installations were completed to a high standard, complementing the quality of the overall renovation.

Challenges

As with many renovations of older villas, some unexpected challenges became apparent once construction was underway. After the existing walls and flooring were opened up, areas of deteriorated framing and flooring were discovered, requiring additional building work before plumbing installations could progress. While this extended the overall project timeline, it provided an opportunity to ensure the underlying infrastructure was brought up to the same standard as the finished renovation.

One of the more significant plumbing challenges involved the property’s existing 20mm galvanised steel water main. The homeowners had previously experienced occasional brown or discoloured water. Upon investigation, we identified that the ageing galvanised pipework had corroded internally. Over time, this corrosion can affect water quality while restricting the internal diameter of the pipe, reducing available water flow and pressure.

A further complication was that part of the existing water main ran beneath a council-owned footpath, preventing us from simply excavating and replacing the pipework in its original location.

To overcome this, our team excavated from within the property and worked beneath the existing footpath to establish a new water main connection at the outlet of the water meter, avoiding unnecessary disturbance to the council-owned surface.

Plumbing Solutions

Rather than retaining sections of ageing plumbing that could potentially cause issues in the future, we took the opportunity to replace the property’s existing water supply and waste pipework.

This approach allowed us to deliver a completely renewed plumbing system, giving both the homeowners and builder confidence in the long-term reliability of the installation.

Key improvements included:

  • Complete water supply upgrade: Removal of outdated galvanised water pipework and installation of a new water supply system.
  • New water main connection: Installation of a replacement water main, overcoming the restrictions associated with the council-owned footpath.
  • Improved water quality: Elimination of the deteriorated galvanised supply pipework associated with discoloured water.
  • Improved flow and pressure: New pipework designed to provide better water delivery and more consistent performance throughout the home.
  • Waste pipework replacement: Renewal of existing waste plumbing to reduce the risk of future leaks, blockages and maintenance issues.
  • Hot water system upgrade: Installation of a new 250L Rinnai mains pressure electric hot water cylinder.
  • Premium fixture installation: Installation of Plumbline gunmetal tapware to complement the home’s high-end finishes.

Project Outcome

The completed renovation successfully combined the character of an older Auckland villa with the reliability and performance of a modern plumbing system.

By replacing the ageing infrastructure rather than simply working around it, we were able to address existing water quality concerns, improve the property’s water supply and significantly reduce the likelihood of future plumbing issues.

For us, high-end plumbing is about more than the fixtures and finishes you see. It’s equally about the quality of the workmanship and infrastructure hidden behind the walls.

Working alongside Curated Construction, we were proud to deliver a plumbing installation that matched the standard of the beautifully renovated home.
